New photo collections

I’ve got a new way to share photos & photo albums.

(TBH I’ve had this set up for some time now—even before I started sharing my film photography blog posts—but I’m finally pointing at it publicly.)

It’s using Piwigo, an open-source, self-hosted photo library app. It doesn’t do facial recognition, or plagiarism, or war crimes, but it does display pictures in albums. I’m coming to accept that some things only do the things that they do.

We’ve got two albums to start things off, so let’s say a few words…

Cosmic Flora

A dramatically-lit, dramatic tree featured in Fort Solis Fort Solis

Some long time ago, probably around the days when I was still thinking a lot about Red Rover, I was thinking a lot about plants in space. I don’t know what it is precisely about them… I just think they’re neat!

Cosmic Flora” is a (very slowly) expanding list of cool plants in space. Let me know if I’m missing a good one!

The Van Horne Water Tower

Silhouette of a water tower against a cloudy sky The Water Tower & the Towering Sky

For maybe the span of a decade or so, I lived & moved in the neighbourhood of the Saint-Lawrence Warehouse and its iconic water tower. It tended to appear incidentally in many of my pictures, to the point where it’s now, to me, a sort of unconscious totem of a specific personal era.

Anyway, here’s a bunch of pictures of it.

Enjoy

I know what you’re thinking: What’s the difference these new albums, and all the film albums you’re posting as blog posts with the photography tag? What goes into a blog post, and what goes into the album of albums?

Well, as Gríma Wormtongue once said: Why do you lay these troubles on an already troubled mind?

I’m sure the distinction will make more sense if we collectively stop thinking about it.

It’s just the two albums for now, but I’ll be sure to post again if & when I create a new one! I’m unlikely to post when I simply add an individual picture or two anywhere, but I believe you can go to the Discover > Notification menu to get an RSS feed for a given album.

Hope you enjoy the NickPics!
