EUR07: The Mad King
If I ever meet King Ludwig II, I’m going to punch him right in the face.
Let’s not build our fairy-tale castle close to anything, shall we? Also, make it rain strong and steadily on the day Nick passes by. I know he was thinking it.
So I got nice and soaked walking up to the castle… I’d heard that walking was the only way to see the Marienbrücke, and the best view of Neuschwanstein. Of course, after seeing said view, I nearly get run over by the shuttle bus parking 2 minutes away…
In any case, the castle really is very impressive/tacky, however you want to look at it. And now that I’m nice and dry at my hostel, I can look back on the time spent in the rain and laugh. Laugh, and tend to my developing case of trench-foot.
I also didn’t get any sleep last night and I’m afraid I’m coming down with a cold. My convalescence will have to wait for tomorrow, however (when I leave for Padua), as I decided to reward my rough experience in Füssen and Neuschwanstein with more sausages, sauerkraut, and two more litres of beer at the Hofbraühaus, during the course of which I met an Armenian couple (kelatsk!), two British girls (cheers!), a Québecois couple (santé!), and a trio of Japanese folk (kam-pai!)… and one more pint at the hostel bar (prost!).
It comes in pints? I’m getting one…
